Schedule

11:00 – 12:30

  • 11:00 – 11:10: Welcome
  • 11:00 – 11:30: Lightning intros: 3 slides, 1 min. each: who you are, the problem you care about, and what you’re stuck on.
  • 11:30 – 12:30: Round 1 of doctoral presentations. 20 min. per student: 8 min. (hard stop) presentation, 7 min. mentor and peer discussion, and 5 min. presenter can ask their questions. All presentations should start with the thesis statement and end with a timeline.

12:30 – 14:00

  • Structured lunch with mentors and prompts

14:00 – 15:30

  • 14:00 – 15:00: Round 2 of doctoral presentations. 20 min. per student: 8 min. (hard stop) presentation, 7 min. mentor and peer discussion, and 5 min. presenter can ask their questions. All presentations should start with the thesis statement and end with a timeline.
  • 15:00 – 15:30: Cross-cutting synthesis: what are the commonalities?

15:30 – 16:00

  • Break (a real one, no activity)

16:00 – 17:30

  • 16:00 – 16:30: Revise one-sentence thesis contribution statement.
  • 16:30 – 17:15: Professional development: ask-us-anything, from advisor relationships, academic job market, industry vs. research, venues for games research, etc.
  • 17:15 – 17:30: Closing with action items

Preparation

Please ensure the following are ready:

  • One-sentence contribution thesis statement draft
  • Lightning intro slides (three slides: who you are, the problem you care about, and what you’re stuck on)
  • 8 min. presentation of your doctoral work, starting with thesis statement and ending with timeline
  • Submit package to mentor (when assigned)
  • OPTIONAL: questions you would like to ask your peers or mentors
